One of the biggest steps for the Crazy Fools occurred in July of 2002 when the band was among only four bands voted in out of over 20 local groups to compete in 96.9 WOUR-FM's Battle of the Bands at the Good Old Summer Time in downtown Utica, NY. The exposure from this event was immense, as thousands of people gathered to watch the bands battle it out and the band's fan base continued its rapid growth. The band again returned to battle again in 2003.

Several musicians from a wide range of genres have influenced the members of this band. They have worked personally and have visited the personal studio of famed musician Fran Cosmo of the band Boston. Although the Crazy Fools play a different style of music, his advice and influence has been very beneficial. One of the major influences of the group was the Southern California group, Sublime. All members of the band have been adamant fans of Sublime for several years and credit Sublime as one of the major inspirations for learning to play the instruments and music they play today. The band was even named after a song written by Sublime front man Brad Nowell.

Other musical influences include Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Band, Eric Clapton, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer, Phish, The Foo Fighters, and many more. The Fools have performed cover music of all the previously mentioned artists in the past.

The Crazy Fools released their full length 10-track original album in August of 2003. The album was recorded at Evolution Studios in downtown Utica and currently gets radio airplay on 96.9 WOUR-FM. A second album of original music is in the works.

The group is looking to branch out to new areas and venues and is looking forward to new opportunities. Their guaranteed audience is always out for a good time and can be just as entertaining as the band on some nights!

JONNIE SULLIVAN
GUITAR, VOCALS

Jon is a creative and talented song writer and contributes most of the lead guitar parts to the band's music as well as a good portion of the vocals. His interest and study of music started at the early elementary level. He began to play the piano and learned how to read sheet music at a very young age. Shortly after, he decided to expand his musical interests and he moved on to the saxophone, which he later played in various levels of school concert bands for eight years. To this day, He still contributes sax parts to Crazy Fools songs.

He began to teach himself how to play the guitar by listening and finding tablature on the internet during his high school years. Inspired by some artists at Woodstock '99 as well as other musical groups, he has strived to reach their level and hasn't put down his guitar since he picked it up. After persuading his two cousins/best friends to get guitars themselves, they began jamming together on a regular basis and everything moved quickly from there.

RYAN GAFFNEY
GUITAR, VOCALS

Ryan Gaffney was raised with music. However, it was not until Ryan was the age of ten that he began to experiment with music on his own. It was at this age that he picked up a saxophone and took private lessons for years along with his cousin, Jon Sullivan. Eventually Ryan would become president of his High School Concert Band. He has since developed into a promising song writer and guitar player.

It was not until late in high school that Ryan's true love for playing music really began. Jon persuaded him to buy his first acoustic guitar, and with no lessons, Ryan learned how to play. Now with several years of playing experience, Ryan has come a long way. Playing mostly rhythm guitar, he has also plays the harmonica and has contributed with vocals as well.

Some of Ryan's biggest influences are Sublime, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, Phish, Jim Morrison, and Tom Petty. One thing Ryan holds above all is to give everyone an opportunity to have a great time, including himself. As the group is becoming more and more known throughout the Central NY area, Ryan has very big plans for the band yet to come!

SEAN GAFFNEY
BASS, VOCALS

Sean plays bass guitar for The Crazy Fools and contributes a good portion of the vocals, both backup and lead, to the band. His interest in music originally stemmed from listening to bands such as The Beatles, Sublime, Jimi Hendrix Experience, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. These bands were early influences and played a large role in his development as a musician. Other bands that have had a heavy influence on his playing style include The Band, The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Phish, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, and many more. Specific bassists he credits as being extremely influential on him include Rick Danko (The Band), Eric Wilson (Sublime), Roger Waters (Pink Floyd), Phil Lesh (The Grateful Dead), Flea (Chili Peppers), Mike Gordon (Phish), and Les Claypool (Primus).

In addition to The Crazy Fools, Sean has been involved in side project bands, including the band Monday Nite Special. Sean has now been playing for many years and enjoys every minute of being a part of The Crazy Fools. He is excited to be a part of the growth of the band, and will continue writing and playing songs for The Crazy Fools.

She has also become a full-time member of the Irish musical group, The Blarney Rebel Band as well as taking one of the drum positions previously held by her father in Les Brers, an Allman Brothers cover band.

GARRY ROSE
KEYBOARDS, VOCALS

Garry "Two R's" Rose contributes his unique keyboard style as well as his talented vocals to the band. He was a late addition to the group, but he has become a full fledged member of The Crazy Fools. The presence of his keyboard in the band's music has helped create a more well-rounded, versatile sound. Garry's background vocals help pull the harmonies together and he also sings lead on various songs.

He began playing with the band T.H.E.M., but found that his musical and vocal talents were more suited to a band like The Crazy Fools. He has been with the band for a couple years now and has come a long way in that period of time.

His musical influences include Peter Gabriel era Genesis, Ben Folds, Jethro Tull, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains. He has also taken a liking to Phish music and Page McConnell's keyboard and vocal contributions to their music.
